the french famous writer, poet and politician,
on the beautiful Place des Vosges / Paris

"Corpus 7, Retro-projective: contemporary jewelry and the Maciet collection*"
This group exhibition proposed the works of 11 artists from Corpus,
a french contemporary jewelry artists association.
Each artist showed two pieces: one, made in the past, will be displayed with an image from the Maciet collection that echoed something from that piece, esthetically or conceptually; the second piece was directly inspired by the Maciet collection, either esthetically or conceptually, and had been made especially for this exhibition.

*Jules Maciet (1846-1911), a great art lover and collector, spent about 35 years of his life building up what can be seen as the first "images databank". Today, the collection, continued by most curators of the Library, proposes around 1 000 000 images about all possible topics, from all over the world and from all time-periods.
This collection is the highlight of the Arts Décoratifs Library.

My showcase at "Corpus 7"

"The Bride Song" was painted in 1881 by Gunnar Berndtson, a finnish painter.
The reproduction present in the Maciet Collection is a black and white phototype
in which, weirdly enough, the way the bride smiles somehow turned into something
more melancholic.
This is the very precise reason why I chose it as a background for my bracelet

To illustrate the "Projective" part of the show, I made this patinated silver pin
which I called "modello", after the italian, meaning model.
The story goes this way: I first got particularly surprised to discover that this postcard
I had published in 1992 was present in the Maciet Collection,
something I totally ignored until I visited this Library for the first time in 2012.
The second emotion came from the fact that this originally gold and patinated bronze pin had got stolen at an opening in Paris, obviously because it was gold.
The idea was to re-create this lost pin through an object that could be seen as its model.
In this case, the model has been made after the final object, and not before,
as it is always and logically the fact. As always, the model suggest more than it shows.
My "Projective" piece turns out to be a reverse of the normal course of time.

Corpus
Founded in Strasbourg in 1992, Corpus gathers jewellery artists mostly from France around the specificity of contemporary jewellery.
Corpus members helped ground the international Ars Ornata Europeana network in 1993.
They have been active within this network organizing or helping to organize conferences and exhibitions
in various cities (Köln, Strasbourg, Bratislava, Stockholm, Barcelona, Krakow, Paris, Stuttgart ...)
Corpus has worked so far on possible links between jewellery and philosophers, sociologists, anthropologists, economists, linguists, psychoanalysts.
Corpus has organized meetings and exhibitions on subjects like: Jewellery and the Sacred, Learning & Understanding, Experimenting and Experiencing Jewellery, The Unnameable, Time...
